Penerapan Media Dressing Frame Untuk Meningkatkan Kemampuan Mengancing Baju Pada Siswa Autism Spectrum Disorder (Asd) Di Kelas Persiapan Sekolah Alam Bengkulu Mahira
Abstract
Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) frequently experience difficulties in developing self-help skills (Activities of Daily Living), including the ability to button clothing. Although this skills appears simple, it plays a vital role in fostering independence, supporting daily routines, and symbolizing readiness for social participation. However, the acquisition of buttoning skills is often hindered by challenges in fine motor coordination, hand-eye coordination, and sustained attention. These barriers highlight the need for concrete, manipulative, and structured learning media that align with the learning characteristics of children with ASD. This study investigates the effectiveness of the dressing frame as a structured teaching medium to enhance buttoning skills among students with ASD in the Preparatory Class of Sekolah Alam Bengkulu Mahira. A mixed methods approach was employed, combining quantitative and qualitative data. The quantitative design followed a Pre-Experimental One Group Pretest-Post test, while qualitative insights were obtained through interviews with teachers and parents. Three children diagnosed with ASD who were unable to button clothing independently were selected using purposive sampling. The intervention consisted of 15 sessions utilizing forward chaining and backward chaining techniques with the dressing frame. Data analysis employed the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test and Gain Score. Results revealed that all participants demonstrated improvement in buttoning skills, with Positive Ranks recorded for all three respondents and Gain Scores ranging from 1.73% to 5.79%. Although the Wilcoxon test produced an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.109 (>0.05), indicating no statistically significant difference, the limited sample size is considered a primary factor. Overall, the findings affirm that the dressing frame contributes positively to the development of self-help skills in children with ASD, particularly in fastening and unfastening buttons. As a concrete, manipulative, and structured medium, it offers a promising alternative teaching tool to support independence in everyday life
